    e-i tach conversion

    I was wondering if anyone has put a 325i 7k tach in a 87 325 that has a 5k tach?

    Yes, it's been done.
    Here's the write-up that I'm following.

Yeah, just change the chip in the front of the cluster. It controls the tach.

ok well when i bought my e30 the cluster was bummed, i took it out and it had the one with the chip in the front. when i got my new cluster it didnt have one so it must have been a pree 12/85 cluster and my car was a 87. it still worked when i put it in.

The write up said to keep your original coding plug for accuracy and just use a different take the same maker of the cluster though.
