    Maplight mirror install help

How in the bloody hell do you get the mirror back in!? :curse: :curse: I'm pushin' as hard as I can and pounding with a hammer trying to get the other side of the spring loaded thing back in.

    Anyone got any tips?

    Much appreciated.

Get some channel locks (or a big crescent wrench) and compress the pins. There is a space between the pins backing plates and the frame. Stick some tiny zip ties in there. Those will hold the pins back enough to allow you to push it in. Once its in then just pull the zip ties out.

    Easy as pie.

That's a really good idea. I'm going by the instructions on Fred Kim's website, written by Dave. Did you wire into the check panel and use wire taps for the power? It's really hard to figure out which wires are being referred to without pictures.
        Thanks!

I'm wondering if it was slightly different in design. The old one popped out very easily. The new one's ends that hold the spring were metal instead of plastic (seemed harder to compress also). Also, the new one's rubber gasket thing was much larger than the old one, so I think it might have been off of an M5. Doing that trick that Ryan suggested witht he zip ties made it much easier.

This article I found has very good instructions for the wiring, except that it says the wire is red on '87+ models. Mine's an '86 and it was red instead of red/green.

some of them go real easily, others are an insane pain in the ass. I tapped mine into the ignition power for the electric sunroof as I didn't have the check control panel, well, the car didn't come with an electric sunroof anyway ..damn.

Yeah I am sure I could have forced it in if I tried harder but I am a very, very lazy man.

This ain't no easy feat with no check panel to pop out and the headliner still in.

I thought all E30s had check panels. I think I'd go nuts without that and the OBC. Was it just the '84-'85 318's that didn't have the check panel?

Nah, I don't have either. Only thing I wish I had was the temperature thing.

I do have an ugly ass seatbelt/overheat/1 time oxygen sensor light on my dash.
