I had to switch my cluster, and I'd like to have accurate mileage since I plan on selling the car in the next 10-12 months and to keep track of maintenance intervals. Is there a way to roll-up the mileage?

Odometer roll-up?

It's pretty easy on an E30. After the speedo is out of the cluster you can release the tumblers and spin them to wherever. To release them look at the odometer wheels with a magnifying glass. You can see a stiff wire running along the row of numbered wheels. Lift it with something like a tooth pick made of metal. A little study will reveal how easy it is.

Take a tiny phillips head screwdriver and remove the gears.
I guess its not illegal to tamper with an odometer if you are planning on matching the current milage to the vehicle that its being installed on. They were telling me at the stealership that if I had to replace the cluster on a newer model with the computerized odometer, they would need the old one so that they can download the information to the new unit. So if your car has 235,000 miles on it, thats what it will say on the new cluster.
