Convertible Hardtop Rack Setup for Bicycles

So I've got my 'vert that I've been trying to sell so I can get a non-vert. This allows me to easily install a roof-rack.

But...if I dont' have to sell then I'd rather not. So...

I've been VERY curious if you can put a roof-rack on an E30 hardtop. Anyone know? I've seen this setup on BMW brochures and such for E30 cabrio's, I want to know for sure how it's done.

    Thanks.

I know thule sells bolt on bases that replicate gutters, so you can put gutter mount towers on them. My neighbor has them on his fiberglass truck shell.

Not that I would drill in to a cabrio hardtop, you'll want to keep it nice so you can sell it down the road.

That is an option, but yeah I don't know if drilling 8 holes into a hardtop would be wise! Although I do have a line on a hardtop for about $500...

I work at a bikeshop so I have access to all rack manufactures goodies!
