so I've been reading up and preparing for swapping the m30 into my cabrio. I have the motor and am now looking for a tranny. I talked to the guy who wrote the article on e30.de and he said the manual from a s14 or m10 would work and I just wanted to confirm this, my freind has a manual from an 85 318 he'd just give to me if it will work. Also how much power can this tranny handle?

if you got both just bolt them up on the ground and see. Or if you don't have the m10 tranny yet take measurments of the center distance between the upper two tranny bolts and I"ll comparit to the m10 tranny and block I have in the garage.85 325e 2.7 ITB'd stroker

Nate,
I'm getting ready to do the exact same swap as you. We could help each other out. I'm not sure about the m10 tranny, but I know the tranny from the e30 m3 will work. It's the getrag 265, it's ideal. That tranny is very strong. I'm looking for a good one.
What I have been trying to figure out lately is what flywheel, clutch, bearing, pressure plate to use as my m30 engine is auto. I have a pretty good, low miles engine from a 1990 735i.
Email me if you want.
Thanks,
Charles

M10 transmission, you'll be changing it out in less than a month. Made for light duty applications if not why would BMW have sourced 3 differant transmissions for E30's.
You have a choice of Getrag 240 for 318i and 260's and 265's. so If you want to put a large amount of torque thru a small transmission and small clutch do the 240 if not just source a 265 unit. It also has the unboltable bell housing.Comment

The M10 gearbox is the Getrag 240, also on the M20B20 engined E30's (like my 320i cab). I'm still using it with my 3.0L stroker (202rwtq) and it is fine......no idea if it will fit the M30B35 engine, but if it does and it's free then it sounds like a good choice ;)

If you've got an M30 out of an E34 the they came with a dual mass fly wheel wieghing a whopping 31 kg's !!!
A cheaper alternative to an alloy fly wheel is a 2nd hand single mass fly wheel from the e28 535. It wiegh's 18 kg's as standard but you could shave anouther 3-4 kg's off it .Comment
