Gas empty light wont' come on and mileage range indicator broken?

What's going on? The gas light won't come on so I have no clue when I run out of gas and it's a PITA! Also the mileage reader doesn't indicate any distance. I only see ---- flashing.

What could be the problem and how can I fix it?

    Anyone seen it before?

The meter is sitting on red and E so I'm sure I've ran it low enough. It still doesn't explain why my OBC reader is not registering a mileage range for the remaining gas.

could be a light bulb for the low fuel warning light is out, or fuel level sender is acting up for starters.

          did you check the bulb??

          also OBC may be bad.

I haven't checked the bulb. Fuel level sender is located right underneath the rear passenger seat right? Above the fuel tank?

yep. that's where it's at. comes out real easy. my tank was totally fucked with rust and sludge and shit. bought a new tank and sending unit. works like new.

Does anyone know how much a sender unit cost? Also how much would a new tank cost as well?

You need a light to tell you you're going to run out of gas? The gauge isn't clear enough? You sure you need the OBC to trigger that light?

The low fuel light is driven by a switch in the level sensor. The OBC has nothing to do with the light. A burned out bulb, wiring problem, or bad/dirty sensor can cause this. When the OBC thinks there's no fuel left in the tank it goes to flashing dashes, which is consistent with a fuel level signal problem.

I presume from the way the question was stated that the fuel gauge isn't working either. A problem with the sensor or wiring can cause a failure of the gauge, the light, and the OBC. So start there.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

The weird thing is the fuel gauge does work so I know when I'm pretty much ready to put some gas in, but it's not the fact that I need a freakin light or the range meter on the OBC to help me find out when to fill up, but I just want it to work.

My range sensor doesn't work and neither does my gas gauge. In order for that light to go on the needle should be passed E and you should have less than half a gallon in the tank.
