    OEM Skid Plate Question

Quick question guys, I searched but can't find the answer.

When the OEM skid-plate was ordered on a new e30. Was it installed at the factory or at the dealer?

    So nobody knows?

Anybody know how I could find out?

Would this be better posted in a different forum here?

No E30's in the states received the skidplates to my best recollection. The best guess is that it was used in areas with tougher terrain, like South Africa. There are a lot of E30 parts that are specific to that region, even whole cars too. So to answer your question, probably from the factory when the option was added.

I'm sure it was an option for tough terrain, bu was not an option here in the states.

Also, you know there are two skidplates, one for early models, and one for late models?

Around $220 from your dealer. Don't listen to their lies, they do exist, and they are in stock. You just have to be persistent and check different sources.

I know its an OEM "skid plate" but I wouldn't trust my sump on a stage to that thing. ..no way. Every skid plate I've made has been WAY more solid then that thing...but most dont drive stage rally either.

How would you know? Do you have one? Have you tested its durability? Or are you basing it off a picture of one?

http://store.666fabrication.com/e30-skidplat.html 666 Fabrication has an E30 skidplate that looks tougher and probably is. Its a little cheaper than the OEM option. Enjoy.

I have one. I've hit tons of shit and it hasn't budged, I'm sure it's saved me at least an oil pan or two. Plenty durable enough for me.

No, I dont have one. But I know what sort of crap happens to a skid plate during rally usage. And even on the street, something could protrude between those spaces and still damage your oil pan. That OEM piece would help for speedbumps and the like, but thats it.
M42Technik, do you always respond to someone with such attitude?

                              proper skid plate
