Good place in Socal to rebuild head on a 87 325is?

I'm looking to rebuild the head on my 87 325is with 188k miles. I haven't used the car much since I've acquired it so I'm not entirely sure what it needs engine wise but it will be seeing frequent track/auto-x use starting near the end of this year.

Does it make sense to also do the timing belt at the same time, I was told by the previous owner that it was done 10k miles ago but I'd prefer to be safe than sorry in case he is mistaken.

Can anyone recommend a decent place to get this work done and what I should be expecting in terms of a bill?

I'd love to learn and do this on my own but currently live in a fancy apartment downtown that doesn't allow any sort of car work in it's underground garage.

Beg, borrow or steal garage space for 2 weeks, get done in one. Have you no friends?

    Saturday: Steam clean, pull head.
Sunday: Organize parts, make a list of what needs replacing, make a shopping list, compare prices.
Monday: Order parts, drop head at machine shop.

Wait for Ugly Brown Truck, call machine shop every 10 minutes to see if head is ready. Clean more, paint parts that need it.

Saturday: Put motor together, test drive.
Sunday: Triple check everything, shakedown run with tools and fluids in trunk.

    Closing SOON!
