Basically, only at WOT, it feels like I'm hitting the rev limiter at about 4k (not exactly the same every time) and it seems to be happening more and more. First three times were over one week apart, and then a few days and now every other time I open it up. I've kinda stopped doing that but it's driving me nuts. While I'm experiencing the loss of power, my check engine light flashes. The code read is 1263, for 'purge valve'. Is there anybody out there that has had/heard of, a similar issue? I feel like I'm taking my kid to the emergency room or something...

Engine code 1263: purge valve

This code is stored if there is a break or short-circuit at: Evaporative control valve, wire from the DME control unit or the output stage of the DME control unit is defective
Wiring most likely. Although it could be a bad dme.........

I suspect that the purge valve fault is a red herring and has nothing to do with the your problem. I think that fault only shows up if there's an open or short circuit to the purge valve (located underneath the intake manifold). Even if the valve was stuck open (a form of intake leak) it should have little affect on WOT operation and should have a greater affect on idle. What you describe could be any, or a combination, of; AFM issue, fuel delivery issue, DME issue, ignition issue, timing reference signal issue. Figuring out which is going to be a matter of eliminating possibilities. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

The check engine light only flashes at WOT during this condition. I am fairly confident that they are related. I put some thought into it, and I think that there is a cross short between the purge valve wire(s) and the WOT signal wire from the throttle body. The WOT wire is only in use during WOT, so if there is current being passed one way or the other, who knows what that will make the DME do. I did find out that this code will not be set for a vacuum leak, but only a continuity issue within that circuit.
