    Maintenance time! How is my part list?

    This is for my 1987 325is which is just a winter driver I want to get in top running condition.

    Air filter
    Fuel filter(s)
    Distributor and rotor
    Ignition coil
    Spark plugs
    Spark plug wire set
    Fuel injectors
    Timing belt, guide, tensioner
    Water pump
    All belts
    Radiator hoses
    t-stat (what temperature to use?)

    How does this list look and can you recommend other parts to replace? Suspension feels a little loose too. What are common bushings to replace?

    What do you need fuel injectors for?
    AFAIK, no timing belt guide present, but timing belt and tensioner should be replaced.
    I'd use a stock (80 C?) thermostat, especially with a winter car. My Bosch Fuel Injection Manual says go with the stock temp tstat. Lower temp ones cause increased cylinder wall wear.

    Common suspension is control arm balljoints (buy new control arms) control arm bushings (fr), and rtab bushings and subframe bushings.
    The current fleet:
    1992 325ic: 148k-171k miles
    1999 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 4WD, 114k-142k miles
    1984 MasterCraft Stars and Stripes Powerslot (not a car :D) PCM Ford 351W, 904 hours

      I figure they might be gummed up after 160kmi but maybe not. Thanks for the other info.

        Annie, since you live in coldsville, I would HIGHLY recommend you replace the hoses and gaskets for the pre-warmer (whatever the hell it is called) on your throttle body.

        Those damn gaskets are easy to do and the hoses easy to replace. Do it while you can.

          Having them cleaned wouldn't hurt. Might cost less than replacing them! Ultrasonic cleaning is available I've heard.

            Valve cover gaskets need to be added to the list and you need to do a valve adjustment.
            The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

              Luke, thanks for the tip. I'll check realoem and do some searching on that subject.

              strad, I'm not sure what it would cost for a shop to clean them, but new ones are around $270 for all 6.

              jlevie, The valves don't chatter too much (not as much as my old 325e). I'll check the clearances anyway. Valve cover gasket is easy, good call :)

                my brother's selling a set of injectors with about 20k miles on them, seafoam'd yearly. if you don't wanna spend money for new ones, pm him.. guy0089

                  trans and diff fluid. If the shifter's notchy, using redline fluid in the trans will help.
