Ok, where the hell is the oil filter?

I have a 1987 325i and I am in the middle of changing the oil. All of the pictures I have seen show the oil filter cover clearly in the engine bay. Mine is nowhere to be found. Unless it's below the power steering reservoir. In that case I don't know how to get to it. Please helpppp!

'tis right below the headers. There is no 'oil filter cover' it just screws straight into a gasket

http://www.e30tech.com/pictures/jim/014.jpg In this picture you'd find it 6" to the right of the BMW etching on the valve cover, and 4 or 5" down, intertwined with the headers.

              Try an oil filter wrench.

If all else fails, drive a long thick screwdriver through it and turn it to loosen the filter. I've had to do it many times. Only as a last resort though.

werd. I'd go for the screwdriver if I didn't already have a wrench, but it'll make a mess.

Like I said as a last resort. Messy and you run the risk of breaking the filter in two while it's still on.
