So. I live in the GREAT state of minnesota and we dont have emissions. I have a 91 318is with the M42 motor. Being that i dont have a HUGE moral delema polluting the air with my car, what would stop me from getting a 2.5 or 2.25 inch pipe custom bent from the header back running to one muffler? I understand that there would be very little backpressure... but i feel like my valve springs are capable enough to not get any float like big V8 guys. Also... i was looking underneath my car... and the pipe that i would get bent wouldn't really have many bends in it at all.... it would be fairly straight. I wanna hear everyone's input good or bad.... but back it up.

IT's a good idea in my book. Less back pressure, to a point, is good. Jordan want's this done since he (and I) live in Oregon where there are also no emisions laws. You might have a hard time finding a place to bend it for you. If it is illigal to run without a cat, most places won't do it becasue they will get in trouble if you are caught.

I ran straight pipes for awhile but they are really loud, and 80 on the freeway with a 3.73 means you can't hear your radio. That is the reason I put the cat back on.

For sure get rid of the cat[s] on that thing. Both of my cars have no cats but I live in CA where we have emmisions testing every 2 years so that kinda blows. I think I will agree with Rob though, a resomator would be a good idea justy because motors do run better with some back pressure.
No cats is the way to go... :)
