    Effectiveness of a heat sheild

Right now, im currently running the old hot air intake setup (see pic), which was on the car when i bought it. im thinking im either gonna go back to the stock airbox, or just make my own heat sheild for it.

Are well built heat sheilds actually effective and worth the effort of making one, or should i just go back to a stock airbox?

heres a pic of whats going on now...

    thanks,
    Jon

If you want a heat shield, Eric Lukas (LukasBMW) will sell you one pre-fabbed for your car for $25 or so (I think)

Just go back to the stock airbox; you're not gaining anything from the cone.

I've got one if you want it, with a brand new air filter in it, too.

that's why my M30AFM is getting a stock modified airbox......just as soon as I can mod the one Dave is sending to me.

Heat shields are pointless on E30's. I've seen temperature tests and calculations that prove them to be a waste of time really.

Drill holes in the airbox. Randomtask did a "Study" on this. I drilled a bunch of holes that were between 1/2 to 1 inch in diameter in all spots of the airbox (below where the filter went of course). I also didn't drill any holes on the side that faced the engine. I also had an extra air box.

What's nice about this? At full throttle, you can hear the sweeet sounding growl coming from the intake. It sounds so awesome! :D

I've decided, as well, that any cone is worthless. Airbox is where its at - much better than anything else.
