Drivetrain Vibrations - What causes at what speeds?

Well I have vibes and watch to fix it.

Both rear axles are DEAD... all 4 boots are torn. I have new axles and need to put them in. 1989 325i. New CSB and new Guibo. Bad axles are still in.

60mph it is almost butter smooth

70mph feels like the car will shake apart

80-90mph it is just a BIT more shake than 60...

    havent been past 90mph

Tires out of balance? Axles can cause this kind of vibration? Driveshaft is toast?

Sounds like tire wear/balance to me. I'd think if it were the d-shaft or axles it get worse with more speed.

New tires soon and will have them better balanced. Thanks.

I used to have a link that explained where the vibes would come from depending on speed and when it comes and goes etc.

With respect to a tire/wheel problem, if you feel a vibration in the steering wheel it is from the front wheels. A vibration you feel in the seat will be from the rear wheels. You can't make much of a judgment based on the speed that you feel the vibration. That's a function of what is out of balance, by how much, and the condition of the shocks.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

When my driveshaft was done for, I had to plat the throttle to get it to smooth out above 70 mph. it may just be the rear axles if they are really that bad. Check both.
