    Dirty coolant tank. Clean?

My coolant tank is full of sludge. I've got an extra one lying around but it's also pretty dirty.

I'm going to be flushing my coolant and replacing all the hoses. Is there some way to clean the coolant reservoir?

Also, is there anything besides oil in the coolant that can cause the coolant sludge?

Some fine sand, soap, and hot water plus some thorough shaking will clean it up.

I would guess that breakdown of hose material could also result in sludge. Never done any scientific testing on it though lol.

I used the rice/dishwashing soap method. Worked surprisingly well, though pretty time consuming to shake that thing for so long. I couldn't get off one tiny bit of dirt left, but everything else cleaned off. It's still yellow and disgusting, but it will work.

Glad it worked. The only other thing you can do is buy a new one as Jordan mentioned.
