    ECUs and chips

    Hi Gruppe,
Just took a peek at my ecu and here's the codes i got off it

    1726683001078

    and part number 0 261 200 380

So what ecu do i have here?

Is the 153 the preferred one? can i just swap that into my car? mine is a 87 325is.

Now what chips should i get?

    here's what i'm gonna do

    1) Split Second MAF
    2) Ireland Exhaust
    3) Ireland Headers
    4) Maybe e36m3 injectors

Now i can tune alot with the SS MAF, but i guess i mainly need the chip to increase the rev limit. Any ideas? Do i even need the 153 ecu?

    thanks a bunch

    Franklin

you have a 380 ecu. which is more stable than a 153. It is prefered over the 173 also so keep that one as it is Motronic 1.3

380 is preferred over 173? Why'd they go back to 173 in 1988 then?

I have sold quite a few 380's in Germany for over $200 with no aftermarket chip. Why does BMW do a lot of other things? Dollars sometimes other times who knows.

That was the sought after ECU and the 381 when I was junkyarding on a daily bias in 2001.
