    Serious Electrical Problem

Ok, my stereo was ripped out and they did a hack job on the wiring. I got myself a wiring diagram and set out to hook up my own head unit.

In the process I touched 2 wires together that sparked, didn't think much of it at the time. Head unit works great. But here come the horrible side effects.

I took it on the road for a sec and I realized that my speedometer, odometer, and cruise control aren't working. I haven't driven the car in a week checking the fuses and all, a little busy getting rides from people.

Some people say SI board, batteries must have gone out. Someone mentioned that it might be my speed sending cable ... sorry I don't know the technical term for it.

Anyone know a simple solution or am I basically paying a bmw electrician $90/hr to figure it out?

You blew a fuse... replace it. Problem solved.

e30's do not have mechanical speedometer cables. They have a magnetic pickup on the differential and a wire to the speedometer.

In the future you may want to consider disconnecting the battery before doing such things.

that's exactly what I was thinking, i'd chack all the fuses again, use a multimeter, don't just look for it.
