    Transaxle

I was wondering if there is anyplace to buy a transaxle, I was thinking off useing a BMW v8 and wanted to keep a more even front to back balance and use s transaxle.
I though first about the Porsche trans but the gear selector would be in the back of the car if used for a front engine setup. I was thinking about the Corvette transaxle, but thatt may only be on the new C6 body, I am not sure. Does anyone know where I could pick one up?? I understand that there would be some modification required to make it work and I wll get to that later.

Porsche 944 are a dime a dozen as well as 924's. How do you plan on mounting this bad boy in the back?

not sure about mounting may mount the front of the tranxle to the point where the diff was. I figured I could lose the spare tire well and make a sort of cage in its place, I could make it work. WAs the 944 a mid or rear engine car? Becaue I lokt a t the rear engine transaxles and the gear selector would end up facint the rear if used in my application

                  What do you mean?

I was thinking of using the m62 block(4.4 liter) and the m60 crank to attcheive a lower compression ratio. Also the shortest pistons and ceramic cost them. Then I would work the compression ratio up to about 8.6-8.9:1 with rod length to improve rod ratio, I hope to get it over 2:1 so I can really run some boost.
I thought aobut the transaxle becaue having the trans in the back would not only improve balance but leave all kinds of room for the turbo(single) to sit behind the engine. I woudl use inline water to air coolers and pipe the boost stright up and kind of over the engine into an M5 style multithrottle body setup.
I have it all worked out in my head.

There are two LS1 vette engine BMW's being built at present. one is an e36 and one is a e30. Surf over to bimmerforums.net and look for it in the E36 thread.

the guy with the e36 used a conventional transmission. I know that the American engien would be cheaper, but why did I buy a BMW in the first place.

Oh i know that I was just pointing out other options. Me, well I would pick out a differant chassis before I was to go nuts on dollar value to what I end up with.

I think if you are looking at 500hp & 500tq, the Corvette transaxle is the only one you have mentioned that would give the reliability and longetivty you would need. They have lived behind Lingenfelter's TT 7.0 liter cars that do high 9's on slicks.

The C5's & C6's both have transaxle setups. The Corvette transaxle has the gears in front of the output flanges, so you would not be looking to fill your spare tire well. You would instead be opening up and filling your trans tunnel. This would get into the fuel tank area, so you would likely need to run a fuel cell. You would also have to fabricate a new rear crossmember, shorten the torque tube and internal driveshaft. Then you would either need to have the shaft splined for a BMW clutch/pp or use a have the BMW flywheel modded to accept a GM clutch/pp. Then shifter linkage, new half-shafts, etc....

It is a nice thought, but huge work and huge $$

Work is on me, I love to work on my own car, no one else's.
Does anyone know what the designation of a vette transaxle actually is?
I wanted to replace my old (probably somewhat rust) gas tank and run a smaller cell. I have seen many shapse but would two low profile, short, and narrow tanks be better for weight shifting than would a single cube cell? Or would 15 gallons of gas make that big of a shift?

porsche 928 has transaxle too. The early 928 twin-disk clutch will hold that horsepower as well, without having a crazy pressureplate.
