Ticking/popping sound coming from under the car

I have a rather hard ticking sound coming from under my car whenver i drive it. its fairly loud and speeds up as i go faster. Im thinking it has something to do with the driveshaft but im not certain. anyone have a clue what this could be????

    -Thanks, Evan

Feel free to hit me up on AIM

couuld be your center support bushing. but im not sure, you should put it up in the air and check it.

        ITS A BOMB!!!!

check all the joints down there for play.. is it a ticking or more of a knocking

Does it cause any vibration Evan, or is it affected by acceleration or deceleration? Does it happen when you move through a corner, or when you jolt the car? The reason I ask is I have the same sort of problem right now...

Its more of a popping. Like somehting is hitting something else, im thinkin possibly the drive shaft.

As fas as i know there is not a vibration that is a result of it. It speeds up as I accelerate but going through a turn or something doesnt affect it really.

I have the same problem, with my new 318is, i was planning on posting about this problem, but you beat me to it.
I check all the exhaust heat sheilds under my car but i didn't see anything that woudl cause the sound. Right now i'm thinking it could be a pressure hose that is connected to my steering rack that is touching the engine support beam. I am going to lossen this hose and move it so it's nto touching the beam and see if this solves the problem. COME ON other m42s Jump in, this an Annoying problem.
O yeah i get this sound mostly in 2 gear after 2500 rpm until 3500 under acceleration, when i'm not on the gas it doesn't have the sound. The sound could continue after 3500rpm but maybe my engine overs the noise.

I'm going to guess it's the center support bearing. Which requires you to remove the exhaust from the cat back and remove those heat shields to expose the driveshaft.

On my 318is, the rubber around the CSB was shot. Inspect your U joints while the driveshaft is out.

I had that problem once. Check the tranny bushings and the guibo.

Don't know, is it under the car or from the front.

If the front, I would check the timing chain tensioner or oil level.

Does it do it sitting still?

I'd check center support bearing if not, maybe diff mount?

Does not happen when its sitting still, only ALL the time when its moving.

BTW thanks for the stock lever spoon, even though that wasnt the problem:(

Evan, i was telling jon about your car problems and he said that stu used to have that problem a long time ago and it was the center support bearing. He also said that you could take it to Billy and he could fix it pretty fast.
