How long do SI batteries last and what is the best method to replace

My dash si lights still work, but I need to remove the dash to get at one of the red lights and my temp guage. I figured, while it is open, maybe I should take a peak at the SI batteries that I hear so much about. What would the prudent thing be to do here? I bought the car 4 years ago with 236k and I do not know the condition of the batteries. How long do they usually last? If I just get new batteries from radio shack, is that enough, or do these things go often and I should add the remote box? Thanks

From what I know the SI Batteries are supposed to last from 4-7 years, but probably can last longer. Thats wut is says on the peake reset tool that I have. (Didnt buy the tool, got it for free) if anyone in my area needs a reset. Let me know.
