    When building a custom exhaust for a m20 with a dinan chip should you include the stock cat replace with new high flow or take out alltogether, i would like to run all new pipe from the manifold back, i would put on a headers but i have only found one thats expensive and for off road use..... so if i bought new cat and muff plus all new high quality pipe ( that wont rot off) this would still be cheaper then a bought'n complete system say like dinan etc. ? how does the borla turbo XR - 1 muffler stack up?

    I'm assuming you're talking about a 325i or 325is right?

    Alright, first thing is to sell your Dinan chip and buy a JC one. There is a difference. I love the JC 10X moreso than Dinan.

    Secondly, MSDS headers or whatnot from IE, aka Ireland Racing. https://secure3.nexternal.com/shared...p&CategoryID=3
    $260 for their "shorty" headers.

    Depending on the laws of emissions locally, you can delete your cat.

    As far as custom piping is concerned, Ted (SlammedE30) likes his custom piping and I believe he used the race muffler you mentioned. I dunno.

    It would probably be easiest if you used a single pipe instead of two, or just buy a catback. IE also makes catback exhausts, which members here enjoy. $410 for their catback. Not bad at all, and sound clips are somewhere on here. I think MattM20 has them.

    Basically, if you have it custom made, I think people were saying a M20 needs no more than 2.5" single piping. Top it off with an aftermarket muffler, and you would have a nice system.

    Of course, know that an exhaust isn't going to do much, if anything, on a M20. So better just hope for increase in sound enjoyment, not HP. This isn't a Honda.

        do you live in the lower mainland??

        if so head down to carline auto in maple ridge they do awesome custom exhaust work...cheap too :)
