    M42 oil leak..small

So I have 3000 miles on a very nice M42 rebuild. Noticed a very small leak of oil on floor. About the size of dime. Got motor back in March. I think it's from the timing cover or main bearing seal. Not form oil pan.Do I bitch slap the engine rebuilder or just ask him to fix it or pay me for the repair?.

I had a similar thing on my freshly rebuilt M42... odd but true...

well, either way, rule out the lower oil pan first...

oil can seep out and run a little bit along the seam between lower and upper pans.

anyway, get a lower oil pan gasket, rtv, and, uh, a M6 helicoil kit (kidding, sorta) and while the lower pan is off, check the upper pan bolts for tightness...

    this worked for me...

where are you located anyway? I'm in bay shore...

I'm in upper Westchester area..Is it a big deal to d get to the upper oil pan gasket after dropping pan? There is two if I am correct. Upper and lower(oil pan). Motor was done out on LI near you..

        whoa who did the engine?

all you gotta do is check the upper bolts for tightness... the back two you can't get to because of the transmission

resealing the lower pan was enough to stop my dime-sized leak...
