    323 flywheel in a 2.7?

OK I have a 2.7 block, but bought the 2.5 clutch. instead of buying a 325i flywheel, it was suggested to get a 323i, as its compatable, and 7 lbs or so lighter. can anyone confirm this?

well according to Jordon the stock 325i flywheel is 19lbs I weighed this 323i one on the bath room scale and it's right near ~12lbs.
I just took it and layed it up on top of a Single mass eta flywheel I have and all 6 bolts holes to the crank line up pefect. The distnace from the mounting flange to the start ring is the same on both. The tooth pattern is slightly different on this 323i flywheel. But when I took a 325e started the gears on it line up fine and engage the 323i ring gear and will spin just fine. So I'm 95% positive it will fit.

the clutch disks are Physically the same but the eta clutch is designed for more Torue then the 325i clutch but either way they should work. If you buy the 323i flywheel I'd get a 323i throw out bearing.

I did this to my 87 325is. I used an 81 euro e21 323i flywheel and 325 clutch assembly and throw out bearing. I felt noticeably less torque but the faster revving made up for that.

I found the stock flywheel to weigh approximately 16lbs and the euro 9lbs. I weighed the fly wheels by standing on a bathroom scale with the fly wheel then subtracting my weight.

The parts were exactly the same except for the material thickness on the back side. I have a friend who was going to do the same swap with a flywheel from an 84 e30 323. I’m not sure but I seem to recall him mentioning some differences with the euro e30 .

                Hope this helps,
                Alexei

you will need atkins soon. If the scale said it weighed 9# and the scale said you weighed 150 you are really pushing 200

what pivot bearing would I use then?

and my setup is an eta block with i head, with an eta tranny, and a 325i clutch

if you are using the eta trans, are you using the trans fire sensors, or the front crank fire sensors. if you ise the front fire sensors, you will be able to use any E30 flywheel. I have one from a 320i on my 2.7. you can use any throw out bearing, they are all really the same, and the 2.7 cluth will not fit on the other flywheels, the spring packs on them do not clear the flywheel. If you are using a trans fire set up, you will probably have to use the E flywheel, because the firing sensors are on it. hope it helps.

you should be set then since you have the 325i clutch kit, plus I'm sure a light weight flywheel would be a great addition to the 2.7 engine.
