brake light comes on until i press brake petal

The engine check light keeps coming on and the idiot light by the sunroof controls is on and says brake light. Ive changed all bulbs and all lights work, light goes off once i tap the brakes. Any ideas on what it can be?

Its supposed to do that, at least I think it says that in the owners manual. I think its the check panel testing itself. Mine does the same thing.

mine does too! it's supposed to, it's a safety feature, it's annoying till you check your brakes. :)

just get in the habbit of every time you start the car tap the brakes, no big deal.

Yeah, if you mean the VDO "CHECK" indicator and the brake light warning light, it's completely normal until you tap the brake pedal. Freaked me out a couple times in my 325 when I first got it.

yeah mines always done it and weve had this car since '93 so dont worry about it

it is supposed to be like that... if you think about it how does the car know the brake lights arent working until you hit the brakes and turn them on....

Wow, all this time I thought there was something wrong with my car but I thought it was good cus I had to hit the brakes before I took off guess ill know if there ever CUT ;)
