Removing the sound deadening in the trans tunnel

Are there any safety reasons why I shouldn't remove the sound deadening material in the transmission tunnel and on the firewall? I imagine it's primarily in there to keep the cabin quieter, but I wasn't sure if it also acted as some sort of a heat shield.

    Thanks in advance!

The cabin might get a bit warmer and yes it will be louder, but I think that's about it.

That pretty well sums it up...
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
