    stripped threads in oil pan

Has anyone had to repair stripped threads in the oil pan using inserts (or some other method)? The holes I'm talking about are the ones in the upper oil pan which the lower pan bolts to. I've seen articles on how to do this on the head, but am wondering if its safe to do on the pan as well.

    Thanks

There really isn't enough meet there to make it work reliably. I'd just replace the upper pan, its not too hard.

Thanks Jordan. I was hoping otherwise.

      Is the upper pan aluminum?

Yes, it is. Problem is the meat around the threaded holes is so small.

How many bolt holes are stripped out? Some of them you can get away with putting a longer bolt in to catch a couple more threads.... sometimes not.

The 2 rear center holes are stripped. I'll try longer bolts.
          Thanks

Heli-coils work better than the oe holes, but have to be installed properly. Good luck!

I've had the same problem 4 bolts came out, I re threaded the holes and put in locking bolts, good as new. No need for a new pan.

Good to hear about the upper pan. Loose bolts in the connection flange too. Someone butchered it.
