The only key I have to my E30 snapped. How do I obtaina replacement?

I bought my car used, obviously. The previous owner only had one key, and it is not an OEM key. My friend broke the key off in the door unlocking it. I retrieved the broken part, but I dont believe the key is salvagable (cannot take to a key cutter).

How should I go about getting another key? Is this something I can order from a dealer with my vin number? Please dont tell me I have to replace all the locks/ignition :(.

Were exactly did it break? Some times the lock smith can still cut a key.

bring your VIN and registration or title copy to the dealer, they can get a new key provided your locks were never changed.

Take the ownership and ID to the dealer and they'll make you one.
          - The person on the ownership needs to be the one ordering the key, for obvious reasons.
