    I need some help w/my Sube brakes....

    Hey.........Im a regular here and I thought some1 could help me out. My 91 Sube had a dragging lt rear brake...it appeared to eat the inner/outer pads and the inner rotor surface.

    I instlld new pads/rotors today......and its clear the piston in the caliper is not retracting. Rebuilt calipers are cheap enuf but Ive never done it. How do I remove the one brake line from the caliper? It appears to have a crimped style connection........and can I use some type of automotive clamps to clamp the line so it wont just leak out?....Its new ground here............and I need to break it.

    The line bolts on to the caliper. When you remove the bolt, there are two copper washers, one between the hose fitting and the caliper, and the other between the hose fitting and the bolt head.

    Don't clamp it as you risk screwing up the hose internally. Before you get started, rig up a stick or something to depress the brake pedal an inch or so, that will keep the fluid from steadily leaking out.

    There is also the possibility that your symptoms are caused by a bad hose. To check, get teh brake to hang up and then open the bleeder. If the pressure releases, and the brake frees up, you more than likely have a bad hose.

      sube brake issue

      Dave....that is awesome advice to start!..........

      when you say "get the brake to hang up", I assume you mean while the rotor is bogged down w/ the pads stuck against it.

        Yup, you got it. Hell take a look at the lines, if they look like they might be cracking/old/generally crappy, throw a set of new ones on anyway. Sure couldn't hurt.
