yeah ATF. I been using the generic Oreilley's (spelling) stuff with success for a while now. It said general purpose automatic atf fluid premium compatible with Ford and GM/Chevrolet.

I rebuilt the PS system on my car and used this stuff to flush the pump and refill the system. ITs been 11 months now and no issues, daily driven.

BMW specs call for Dexron 2. Dexron 3 has superceded dexron 2, so use that.

I've always been curious what the difference between ATF and "power steering fluid" was. I mean, is it actually different, or did some company make a fortune off of selling ATF for twice the price?

I've used real "power steering fluid" in other cars before. I *think* it's consistency is more like brake fluid. It's been a while, so I could be mistaken.

The car calls for ATF for the power steering system.

I use synthetic Dexron, change it often. The whole system holds less than 1 liter and it oxidizes quickly due to heat...Save you a P/S rack job in the future.

ATF doesn't stain driveways, leaky racks do.

i've used DOT4 brake fluid and itt seems to work better than anything. easier turns, no wear, no leaks, no oxidation. ive been using it for about 2 years now
