Ecu Chip Interchangable?

Jst wondering what is the difference between these ECU #'s?
153,173,380 etc.
is it jst the tuning/coding on the chip or they have a totally different PCB's?
Why? ive got a STOCK ECU that has a 7k redline.
the Car was build on 05/88.
Yea 7k ive switched several ecu's and they all redline @ 6500.
This ECU has never been tempered with before/opened.
couple days ago, it craped out on me. Jst wondering if i can switch the Stock chip, to a different # ECU.

A 7k redline makes me think that this DME has been chipped. That should be obvious if you open up the DME and examine it.

I have a stock 173 dme, if you need it mike.

Chips cannot be swapped between different # dmes.

Eg. a chip made for a 153 dme, wont work in a 173 dme. Thats why MarkD would ask you which DME you have before selling you a chip.

The only one that can be swapped is 380 -> 173 or vice versa.

I did, and before i opened it, I looked carefully around it and it looked lke it has never been touched before and also the actual chip had the stock cover / stock Label still on it.

and for some reason, the ECU its labeled, 580 Wired Ehh,

thanx trev, ive got 3 M20 ecu's sitting here, i jst which i can use this chip from my other ecu.
didnt notice the rev difference until i replaced it.
