    Tips on removing the hood?

I'm going to remove the hood to do my timing belt. I'm not sure what to do with the linkage where the gas struts hold the hood open. Is there a write-up somewhere?

    Thanks!

if ur just doing a t-belt leave the hood on. its not that bad.

but if you are going to remove the hood, mark where the edges of the hinges meet the hood, to make aligning it better. also, have an extra hand or two help you(obviously)

just saw your question on the hinges, just disconnect the shock from the hood and hinge, and the hinged part will just fold down.

Thanks - I also could not find where the washer fluid hose disconnects - it runs from inside the hood to down in the guts of the radiator/grille area.

For what its worth, I have to say I am so glad I removed the hood when I did the T belt on my M20.

Takes only minutes and you can do it yourself, its light, and makes access so much easier.

Be sure to scribe around the hinges (I used a Sharpie) before you remove it, to easily realign it.

I think I'd better do it. I'm about 25 years older than the typical R3V'er and my back's not as limber as it used to be. Ideal lifting angles work a lot better nowadays than leaning over.

Still looking for an answer on the washer fluid line - also how to pop the clips or otherwise disconnect the itty bitty little shock absorber.

Sorry if this topic is too basic - I'm sure it will all be very obvious after I do it one time, but a screw up on a large bulky item like this would not be that fun.

Its all good, I'm 20 plus years than the mean age on here also.

The hood shock has a tiny clip, use needle nose pliers and just pull the clip off, and then the shock off the stud.

I can't remember the washer line, but if I recall its best to disconnect it near the pass side of the header panel, behind the headlights , it comes apart easy and should be kinda obvious.

There was a ground strap on my hood too, on the drivers side, but you'll see it if it's there.

Once all unbolted/disconnected, stand in front of the grill and a clean lift and jerk and its off.

I did it by myself (hood removal) and no problem.

            Good luck

OK - thanks to all. My wife helped me lift the hood off and it's going to be way easier working from the front of the car. I ended up cutting the washer line to avoid undoing a bunch of tie-downs & will reconnect with a barb when the time comes - my apologies to the purists.
