    Lost ignition key

My friend just picked up an 87 BMW 325e for us to use as a low-buck race car. In the process of removing the aftermarket stereo installed in it to give to the seller, he put the key (the only one) on the dash and accidentally knocked it into the defroster vent. Bonehead!

Does anyone have any insight into fishing out the key, or alternately getting a new key made? The only thing we can think of at the moment is to pull off the trunk lock and have a duplicate key made from it. Any other suggestions?

i got my e30 from the auction and it didnt come with any keys so i had one made from the trunk lock like you stated but it was different from my ignition so i had a locksmith come out and make one on my ignition w/o pulling it out (30 bucks). If you have all the neccesary paperwork the dealer will get you an oem key for 50 bucks.

Well my friend pulled out cluster and the defroster ducts and was able to fish it out by hand.
