    Fuel pump relay questions

OK so if someone can help with this I'd appreciate it.

The Cab's running ok but not 100%, feels like an interment problem and I'm starting to think its fuel related.

After numerous runs checking any stored codes and resetting the motec I keep getting the fuel pump relay fault code.

Its an 88 m20b25 and the pump and relay are new. I'm going by the Bentley and it says as I lean over my drivers side fender and pull the cover off the aux relay thingy the three relays are front of the car to rear, Main relay (5 prong), fuel pump relay (4 prong), O2 heater relay (4 prong)...is this correct as the center relay plug in that group has 5 wires leading into it?

So I go onto Pelican and real oem and they list a 7 prong fuel pump relay for an 88 IC, WTF?

So, I'm confused, where does that go? I have an open void plug next to my fuse box that has made me wonder, and should post pics and ask about it, but the thing runs, but I know it should be better...

    Thanks

MoTeC?! I think you mean Motronic. Stock fuel management right?

Anyway, the relays unclip from where they mount and can clip back in in any of the three positions. BMW put your fuel pump relay in the middle, but thats no guarantee that it hasn't been moved by someone in the 20 years your car has been around.

You are looking for a relay with Red, Red/White, Brown/Green, and Green/Violet wires going to it. Your fuel pump fuse is fuse 11, 7.5A. If it's the original german open fuse, swap it with another just to help eliminate that possibility.

To bypass the relay, give this a try: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...4&postcount=17

Right sorry, Motronic but I must have had Motec on my mind.

Was just wondering from others experience what would trigger the fuel pump relay code?

After studing the ETM, I swapped the main relay also as this seems to interlace with the voltage feed to the fuel pump relay.

        Looking for feed back

I just went to the dealership and bought a fuel pump relay. The guy told me that the relay he gave me has an extra prong but it should not affect anything. If it does not fit then just cut it off.

            Thanks for the reply, really.

Yes a 5 prong or whatever would fit the factory plug. After looking at it today it only has four spades under the fuel pump relay, so I have that figured out. The Pelican 7 prong relay they list just confused me. But am still wondering what would trigger the fuel pump relay code on a running car?

Not sure why it would be doing that. Is the main relay good?

Just an update, in case some one gets the nagging fuel pump relay fault code.

After searching about the net, it means there is a fault with the voltage to that relay, so I swapped out the main relay with another, and now (for the last couple days anyway) the code has not reappeared.
