you WILL want a gasket though. The dealer should have that since there is a large number of similar diffs.
Is that the 3.25 one you PMed me about?
No that's not my photo, just some visual help.
The 3.25 I found doesn't have a Limited slip so I was thinking I could swap it over from this S2.9x.
I was told everything will switch over without a problem.
Just to make sure, this is a direct quote from another forum.
From the looks of things in the pic, it looks like the side bearings (carrier bearings) come off with the output shafts. unbolt the drive flanges and pull them out, the carrier looks like it should fall out, as there are no visible bearings caps. (pretty ingenious design, actually. Incredibly strong)
Is this accurate?
Anyway, Thanks for your help.. Hopefully the gearing won't be too short for me. :x
I'll find out tomarrow I guess..
EDIT: Ryan, what did you mean there are allot of similar diffs?
Should I get the gasket to match the cover or the case?
For example: I'm going to use that E12 housing, so I should get the E12 gasket?
Again, thanks allot for your help. ;)
How's MPG btw?

Not quite, the bearings are held by the 6 bolts on each side, behind the stub axle flanges (which you pull out).
You will need to un-bolt the LSD centre from the crown wheel and swap it on to you 3.25 crown wheel.
you may not be able to switch the lsd pack to the 3.25 gear set. I sodl a 2.79lsd clutch pack and the buyer said that above a certain gear ratio that a custom spacer ring has to be made. I can't remember over what gear but it was 3.xx
The 3.25 is a great ratio for an Eta. I wouldnt attempt the LSD changeover because it will be harder than you anticipate (not impossible but not quite as easy, and diffs are easy to find).
Get a gasket. WHat I mean is that the back of the diff for the Z3, E36ti, E28, and E30 are all the same but just different covers. I have an M coupe cover on a 535is 3.25ls diff with E30 flanges and gasket. All total I invested just under $300 and it took me about an hour to swap diffs.
Ryan: I thought this would be better then P.Ming you so....
Is the ring gear the same size on the E28/E12 then the E30?
I'm asking because the housing on the E28/12 looks much bigger but could be because the way it mounts making it look that way...
What I'm trying to say is:
Will the ring from the E12 bolt to the E30 spider gear carrior (I forget the name )
I'm thinking of pocketing the limited slip from that Es I saw, but I don't want to go through the trouble if it wont switch over; Kinda want to be 100% on this. :P
