Hey guys, based on all the advice I have gotten here and on Miata.net, I am going to be replacing the timing belt and water pump on my recently acquired 325i. It also seems like my thermostat may be stuck open, so I am going replace that while I've already drained the cooling system.
I am planning to replace the belt tensioner as well. I already have the Bentley manual, it actually came with the car. :D As a result of a basic overview of the process, I will remove the radiator to ease the process.
My roomate and I have a decent set of tools, including several different sizes of ratchets (1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 drive) and a torque wrench.
Does anyone have any advice for this job?
I do have one question... the manual indicates that "earlier" E30s have a two-piece hub that requires removal to take off the timing belt, which requires like 300 ft-lbs of torque. Am I correct in assuming that my "later model" 1989 325i does not require this process? I have no idea how I would generate 300 ft-lbs of torque...
