    Temporary belt squeal fix

I recently replaced all my belts (power, timing, alternator), and I found my alternator bracket was stripped/useless. I ordered a new bracket, but got the wrong one. I put the car back together anyway and ordered the correct bracket. Unfortunately, it's back-ordered, and it will take a few weeks to get here.

In the meantime, my loose alternator belt is screaming like a banshee after a few minutes of use. The turbo is dumping straight out of the downpipe and the alternator belt is still louder. Ideally I would like to be out on the road tuning the car, but the squeal is just so insane that the car is pretty much un-drivable.

Is there anything I can do as a temporary fix so I can drive the car?

Edit: I don't have the old belt either, I had to cut it off.

The only thing I can think of is trying to see if you could get a shorter belt. I would suggest a belt dressing spray, but because the belt is pretty much burning out over the pullies, You should try to get a shorter belt.

Either make a new bracket or use bar soap. Start the engine, and press the bar of soap up against the moving belt on the faces where it contacts the pulley. If that doesn't work, the belt is too loose.

cut it and throw it away...

no seriously, you could make your own. Go to a gokart shop and pick up some trahsed bent junk steering tie rods with ball ends and make a new bracket out of it... thats the "pro way". They always got these laying around since customers get them bent all the time. I know, I use to be one

not so pro... got to Lowes and pick up a piece of bar stock, measure drill a hole, make the other a slot. and gorilla torque the sucker.

I presume by "stripped/useless" that you are referring to the teeth on the bracket that the adjuster engages. That being the case, use a pry bar to tension the belt and then tighten down the adjustment.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
