My idea is to make the tube shorter and make the pump fit. wire it up. I'm guessing that might work.

Another question, a guy on my street is parting out an i, but does it have 2 pumps like the e? Or do I have to find a e?

The aux pushes fuel into the main pump.

e vs i doesn't matter in this situation, it was a model year thing. If his car has taillights like yours, go for it. If not, get the fuel pump assembly anyway, it has the connector with larger terminals you need to power a larger in tank pump without melting and catching fire. Hell, you could prob just use that pump. Change out the fuel level sender with your old one though.

Hmmm. it's a 91. If it does work, just ditch the external pump on my car and just use the assembly from the i?

Yup. Make sure you clip the fuel pump connector from the '91 as well, as its different.

e36 pump. Looks a little different then the picture, but it works.

After putting it in, while I was going to take the main pump out I noticed that there was a broken wire going to the pump... so fuck my life it was a stupid wire and the aux pump was dead.

Guess I have 2 high pressure pumps now..

Well at least good came of it. Your external will now live a long happy life, and your car is working better.
