Loud noises at initial startup, 3 degrees out

My M20 cabby made a roaring sound, yeah, it was pretty loud, on initial startup in 3 degrees. Went away in about 5 seconds. Has done it only twice. I am assuming it is pulley bearings on something. Any experiences like this??
    Thanks

Frozen/gummed up power steering fluid. ATF gets really nasty when it is that cold out, and it doesn't like to flow through the filter. Mine does the same thing, on an M42, and I am going to get a new reservoir assuming I decide to keep the power steering.

Yep, sounds like thick fluids that could be causing the noise. The best way to keep your car from making this noise is to make sure your fluids are clean and your filters are clear as well. This is somewhat normal too, considering the cause and the age of our cars.
