Temp guage needle jumping?

Well, I finally got my car back on the road (thanks for all the info), but I have a problem.
My temp guage needle jumps between the 1/4 and 1/2 point on the guage. What could this be? Car runs fine, so I don't think it's the temp sensor, but it's very aggrivating. Anyone know how to fix this?

Take out the instrument cluster and tighten the small grounding nuts.

I'd second that, worth stripping it and cleaning the contacts to if you can.

Can you give more detail on cleaning the contacts? I have three gauge clusters and only certain things work on each one. I've messed around with them lots trying to get everytihng working.
What a pain in the ass.
