    Getting the spider-gears out.

Today I was trying to take the gut's out the the case and ran into a little proble.
The barring on the spider-gear housing (don't know the name) wont let it come out because they get stuck..

How do I take these barrings out?
Am I doing it wrong, because that the only way I see it comeing out.

    Thanks.

are you trying to get the differential out of the case? or are you trying to get the spider gears out of the differential?....

me thinks you are trying to get the differential out of the case..... and me also thinks if you have never done it before you should take it to a differential shop.... they are very picky things....

there is a preload on the differential side bearings..... meangin the you either have to spread the case to get it out, or just man up...... but like i said if you set the preload wrong, the back lash wrong, the pinion depth wrong, or the pinion bearing preload wrong you are going to have whining, howling clunking, leaking..... and eventually a messed up ring gear and pinion gear.

if you have the right tools and instructions/specifiacations for the differentail then you should be able to do it, but you might end up messing it up as well

Yes, the diff. out of the case.

I have it OFF the case, but I'm having trouble gettting it OUT because the barrings that're stuck to the actual Diff. are not letting it through, Maybe if I had about 1mm clearence.

It seems like I could just barly sqeez it through but can't.
If there was a way to get the barrings off the diff. THEN I would be able take it out.

I'm not messing with the spider gears BTW (sorry for the confusion)
      I'm Switching the 3.25 ring with the LSD from a E30s 2.7.
Everything's been really simple and smoth exept takeing the actual diff out the case :?

Hope I made myself clear

P>S: I've tryed hammering it trying to brake it with a screw driver.. nothing works on these barrings. :(

Thanks for the advice e30evolution :o
I remember doing a Honda Trans and It had a nice "Spooling" sound after. :x
So Yeah, you have to know what to do.

not sure what diff you are working with.... but if you unbolt the ring gear there may be screws underneath that hold the case together (then you can take out the spider gears and the clutches) the side bearings are pressed on and you need a puller to get them off..... a picture would be nice, i have never had an e30 diff apart.

if non LSD there should be a pin holding two pinion gears to the case... there is a retaning pin/bolt holding that large pin in. you either take out the bolt or use a punch to take the pin out.... then the big pin should slide out and you will have a pile of side gears and pinions along with the bearings in your lap or workbench.

hope this helped, please post a pic and i could be more assistance

Hum, I've torn down two diffs one limited and one not. Neither ever gave me a problem I know it was a tight fit, but I got them out. If I remeber correctly i had to lift the clutch pack up and pull it directly out the center threw the rear or it wouldn't fit. You've got both output flanges pulled off correct? Plus the large Retaining ring for the output bearings. I'll have to go down stairs and take a look a the two cases to see what your talking about.

              Yes, the flanges are out.
Thanks, that would be a big help if you re-checked how you did it. :D

Unfortinatly the car is no longer there from new cars coming in, so no pictures, AND I have to find another one to work on... :? (No biggy)
