    Removing driver door window...

    The Bentley manual is useless - there are ZERO bolts holding my window it - it's like it's held in by clips (something this car is covered with... :roll: )

    I'm fucking lost, I have no clue how to remove the damn window.

    While I'm at it, how do I go about removing the regulator?

    I could get a picture if anyone needs it - but the thing is, the Bentley has a pic of, what it looks like, 2 bolts going into the glass thru a bracket. There are no bolts going thru the glass on my car, and I have no clue what to do. :roll:

    First things first, the window does hav bolts holding it in. Where it attaches to the track in the front of the door there is like a wheel that slides into a bracket. The rear part however is bolted directly to the track. The regulater is held in by the 3 bolts visible once you remove the door panel. To get the regulator off the track you have to remove a plate that goes over the track and bolts into the regulator. There are 4 screws in this. I found the easiest thing is to get one of those screw driver ratchets. It is a little tough to get but spend a little time and it'll come right out.

      unbolt the 2 10mm bolts that hold a track onto the inside of the door. Then have a friend move the window into various places until you can slide the other 2 tracks off. I have been in your place and it's VERY confusing. Just unbolt that first track and play with the different positions the window goes in.

              i would go look at my doors to give u some advise. but i think they are both to mangled to even give u an idea.

                Hate to dig up such an old post, but I'm REALLY lost now.

                I went ahead and compared the two cars - my Super Eta and the 88 IS (parts).

                And, here's the thing.

                My Super Eta has bolts holding in the window. However, my 88 IS DOES NOT. I removed the rubber seal at the top, and looked down there. Not one thing if touching the window in the IS but the things that the windw is sitting in. It's real weird.

                Now, my other questioin - evn if I was able to switch the windows - would it still work? if the 88 is does not have bolts (or, what ti seems, even any place for them) i wouldn't be able to put bolts thru the glass...would I?

                Baiscally, it looks like the IS has window clips, rather than bolts like my Super Eta??


                I'm at a loss here. Don't have the digtal camera right now, so I can't get pics. Any ideas anyone?

                  Sean look for 2 (10mm i think) nuts holding the rale onto the side of the door. Unbolt those 2 to release the rail. Then you can slip the window out with a bit of help from a friend.

                    After 2/88 there was a change in both window and window regulator design. Prior to that, like everyone said, there were 2 10mm bolts in the rear holding the glass to the regulator (which is an S-type design) and a wheel in the front that slid onto a track. You can take that one out in 10 seconds.

                    The later style have a scissor-type window regulator where the glass is held onto the regulator by a couple of white tabs. Now, I've never changed windows on a post 2/88 E30, but I've changed em on E36s and other later models and if they're anything alike, find the white plastic tabs that hold the window to the regulator and slide the metal pin out with a flathead screwdriver. From there, it should seperate from the regulator. You'll probably have to replace the clips since they usually break, but I think they're like $1.00 each at the dealer.

                    Then again, I could be completely wrong...

                      That would explain the difference. The Super Eta is 12/87 and the IS is around 5/88

                      And...let me get this straight. The window regulators are different too? Well...fuck. I was going to use the pass side motor from the IS in my car...dammmit. :evil:

                      AND - if that's the case, I also can't switch the windows even when I got them out. One would have the holes for the window, the other wouldn't..


                      HOWEVER - here's an idea. I could just switch both sides, windows and regulators...but is that more work than it's worth?
