code 1223 and wont start

car ran (like crap) for about 5 minutes. it felt like it was "missing" or not running on all the cylinders, but what do i know. throttle response was terrible and finally it just didnt want to go any more. it stalled, couldnt get it started again. couldnt even push start it. stomp code says 1223. didnt know coolant temp sensor had anything to do with it. help please... i called TNG auto but no one answered. search didnt give a whole lot of info

My car did something similar two days after I bought it. I was really disappointed until I found out that a new sensor is under 20 bucks. You will need an offset wrench to get it to it (it is the lower one on the thermostat housing, the upper is the sender for the cluster), but after swapping it out the car ran a million times better. Basically, if the sensor is fried it will either think the car is always warm or always cold, and give the wrong readings to the ECU for fuel. Will definitely make your car run like poo. Good luck

"1223 - This fault code indicates problem relating to Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS). Test the CTS sensor for proper functionality and check sensor wiring and connections."
Also try the TPS, my car ran like nut sack for the longest time till i realized the wires backed out of the TPS...a faulty tps will also throw incorrect codes ;)

good news: it started and ran well
bad news. it started and ran well.

now what? FYI, two weeks ago i put a brand new TPS in. now i'm led to think that there is a corroded wire or a short somewhere... i dont want this to happen again. i'm still not sure exactly where the coolant temp sensor is (a picture would be amazing). anymore ideas? thanks for the help
