It doesn't look much different, maybe a little shorter than the stock shifter if anything.

There wasnt many people who have used this one it seems. I want it to be alot lower and therefore i should go with the z4 3.0i right? But alot of people have been saying they had to bend it. What do you guys think my best bet would be if i wanted it to be alot lower, much shortend throw, not to notchy(i dont mind a little) and no modificaiton necessary?
I read the hole thread in the fax section and it helped alot, but i wanna chose the right one.

I was going to do the z4 3.0 ssk but I got turned off by all the bending and hacking, also more than one person has complained that it is a bit too notchy. I'd also like to know which one is a direct bolt on with no boogering.

the z4 2.5 and 3.0 are going to be the exact same height. I took off the 3.0 shifter after a day because of the REALLY notchy feel. The 2.5 is a little notchy but not annoying like the 3.0.But I only used the 3.0 for 1 day that coupled with a non-disengaging clutch could have amplified the situation. So far i have had the 2.5 on for about 5 days and I love it.I dont like it very notchy because I shift pretty fast and hate waiting for the 2 steps.

Ok, I just spent about 1/2 an hour looking on this site at ever thread about this. And I just want to make sure that the 2.5 will not have to be modified(bent). It seems like its gonna be damn low too, judging by the pics of Chris's cab at http://www.r3vlimited.com/phpBB2/vie...=short+shifter

But mine shouldnt be that bad with my knob. I have the same one as jordan has.

Im going to the dealer tommorow to order it. Any advise in the purchase will help alot.

              Thanks

i had to cut 3/4 of an inch off my shift knob and remove the plastic spacer in the shift boot to get my shift knob to fit snugly on the z4 2.5 lever. its not too low, in fact i think it looks just right; i have some good pictures that i'll post when i get back to my home computer. it seems like the shift gate is shifted slightly to the right, and there's some contact with the harmonic balancer; but other than that it was well worth it.

The 2.5L Z4 shifter sits ALOT lower in the console. The throw is also significantly reduced. I like mine ;) Below are some pics of neutral & 2nd gear.....

do you think i would need to cut part of my knob off like mattm20 is talking about?
Did you have any other trouble fitting it? Bending required?

I have the Z4 3.0. No bending, no cutting, just dropped it in. Not notchy at all, just a beautiful snick-snick through the gears. Feels quite a bit like the actual Z4 3.0, try to jump in one at a dealer.

i just have a stock replacement knob. here's p-shopped pic of the Z4 2.5 lever in 1st Neutral and 2nd in my car.

edit: i had no trouble installing it (except for that damn white cup that took about a hour to get out), other than that it just dropped right in.

Here's a trick, in case you guys haven't figured it out.

Take two flathead screwdrivers (preferably ones with lifetime warranties) and insert them in the slots on opposite sides of the pivot ball on the shifter. Then cross them diagonally and use them to rotate the cup 90 degrees. It's easy as pie. ;) You can install the new one by reversing the process, just be careful you don't break it.
