Took our rear seat, strange noises!

Besides being able to hear the fuel pump a shit load more, i also notice a really bad clunking sound with shifting now so smoothly or jabbing the gas from a no-throttle position.

what could it be? Something tells me its the differential internals slapping up and down, but im hoping its the center support bearing?

I noticed my seatbelts were hanging and making clunking noises while I drove around after I took my rear seat out.

Could be a variety of things. Could be your upper shock mounts or Lower control arm bushings.

shock mounts fine, replaced with E46 cabrio mounts and reinforment plates.

i inspected the CA bushings not long ago and they were fine, but i highly doubt this should even be considered as the noise is eminating from the rear of the transmission to the differential

That's funny where do you think they are located? Hmm between the two items you mentioned. But there are a few more items and sound can travel funny thru metal so it's not always where you think it is.

Has the car been on a lift lately? Get it up and look for loose items, ie exhaust or exhaust shield. Could be Carrier Bearing in the drive shaft also.

Sounds like classic symptoms for the rear subframe bushings. I'd do everything back there (trailing arm bushings, rear subframe bushings, and diff bushing).

am i missing something? lower control arms are a front suspension component...unless you refer to as the "lower control arms" as the "rear trailing arms" as this is not an E36.

i bet its probably the rear subframe bushings....do they have a tendency to squeek as they go bad too?

when im driving and the road is not ultra smooth pavement, but just like...regular asphalt, it squeeks a bit..but only under very tiny movments.

considering the last 30k miles have been pretty hard on the car and the many auto-x's ive attended, the possiblitiy of the bushings going bad is pretty high.

                      urethane or stock?
