Installed New O2 Sensor, Now No Power

I just installed a new 02 sensor, I bought the mustang one at autozone and wired it in. The car has been running without one for about a year.

Now my eta won't rev above 2k rpm. If I keep the accelerator down it will eventually come out of it in a quick burst, but it takes a while. It does this in all gears. I tried taking it out for an "Italian tune up", letting it idle for a while and I tried unhooking the battery for a minute. Is it just that my ecu needs to adapt to having it hooked up again? When I unplug the sensor it drives just fine.

edit: possible clogged catalytic? Seems like if this was the issue that it would be stumbling regardless of having the oxygen sensor plugged in?

Since the engine performs okay using the default map (sensor disconnected) and since the sensor isn't an OE part, one would suspect that this sensor isn't operating properly or isn't the correct part. I'd get the OE part from a dealer and see if that works better.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Yeah I was thinking that this morning. When I first drove the car this morning (engine dead cold = supposedly o2 sensor shouldn't send signal to ecu) the car still shuddered and stumbled from around 1200 to 3000. So maybe I wired it in wrong? Which seems hard to do with only 3 wires, 2 of which are the heating loop. I'll see how much an OE sensor would be.

Without a discount, expect to pay no less than 80 dollars.

            - fap99 : $113
            - autohausaz : $114

1, the O2 sensor is shit or wrong.

or 2, it's hooked up wrong.

or 3, someone screwed around with everything else trying to get it to run well without the O2 sensor.

or 4, The DME could be toast and misinterpreting the O2 signal.

If it eventually revs up the cat isn't clogged.

The earliest system with adaptation is DME 1.7 (1991-92)

I had considered the computer too. What do you mean by the adaptation, that it is able to remap to changes in the system?

Today it seems like it is having similar problems with the o2 sensor unplugged, but not as harsh as when it is plugged in. So what if its somewhat clogged, but not totally?

Thanks for all the replies.
