    Booster for e30m50 discovered

    Hi guys...

After spending a few days in a yard I discovered that the e30ix booster is very similer to the merc benz. Even the part number is the same and only the last three digits are different. The e30ix booster part number is 34331161486 and the MercBenz is 34331161xxx. Sorry I dont know from which model of Merc Benz.

If you want to use the BMW brake master cylinder, you have to drill a bigger hole in it in order to fix it to the Merc booster. Othwerwise, you can use the Merc Benz brake master cylinder.

Also, you can use the brake booster from a Fiat Coupe which is about 1inch bigger in diameter than the Renault R19 booster but 3 times as long. In the Fiat Coupe booster, all the screw points are in the same position as in the BMW e30 booster, but the booster rod is a bit different and needs some small modification, which is not a big job.

The Renault R19 booster is about the same size as the Fiat Punto one, so the Fiat Punto is not the best booster for the E30M50 conversion.

In the next few days I will swap my R19 booster for a Fiat coupe booster for better braking, I hope.

    Mirror.

      Good stuff.
Does this mean that the 325ix booster will work with an m50 swap?

I was also under the understanding that if you trim down the shaft the boosted from the 320i will also work.
        Im now E30less.

yeah ryan, modified 320i and 2002 brake boosters work in e30s (all four of us use modded 320i boosters in SD, dunno about trent, he'd make 5)

Any reason you guys went with the 320i booster over the ix' one? Cheaper?

ix's are not very plentiful in San Diego as compared to areas that actually get rain and snow.

I also think that the IX booster might be a little larger. I am going to run the 320 booster for a while and most likely go through the tedious process of modifying the 2002 booster myself later on.

Does anyone know the measurement for the shaft on the E30? That way I could pre-cut and thread the shaft before removing mine so its a quicker swap?

I also found out that my motor is 10/95 so that saves me having to replace the valve spring retianers. :)
                        Im now E30less.

Show me where you can get it that cheap, please. I'm sceptical because the euro depot sells rebuilt ones for $220.

What month did they upgrade the retainers? I have titanium retainers currently installed in my 9/95 M3 head, but will probably remove them and sell them in favor of the stock ones to be more streetable.
