    Leaky Valve Cover Gasket

I know this is pretty basic. Slow typical seapage leak. It doesn't drip down the head but instead creeps up onto the cover itself. The gasket is brand new and proper torque has been applied to the bolts. For some reason, some where along the line, I got this notion that using gasket sealent when not instructed to by the manual was not tha best thing to do. So I guess the real question: Is there any shame in using silicone so seal my valve cover? Got any other suggestions to stop the leak?
BTW I did search for this but with no help.

I don't see why a light application of rtv sealant would hurt anything.

Using an OE gasket, new bungs, and correct torque, sealant isn't needed except at the bungs. A leak elsewhere (cam seal, oil filler cap, etc) can put oil on the cover as if the gasket were leaking.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I've heard of replacing the bungs but I dont know what motors they are applicable to. It seems I can only find them for the M42 which I dont have. Guess I'll check the cam seals, and cap.
