    Speedo works sometimes.

So sometimes my speedometer works and sometimes it doesn't. There's really no way to tell what makes it work and what makes it turn on but I already checked the cable on the diff and it seemed OK. Has anyone had this happen to them before? All my other gauges work perfectly.

Does the speedo flicker on and off or does it just completely not work at times and work at other times?

I had an issue with a previous E30's speedo where it would come in and out. I was able to resolve the issue by re-flowing the joints on the circuit board with fresh solder. Your best bet is to take the cluster out and do some investigating. Good luck.

Sometimes it flickers like it wants to come on but then it usually dies again, I guess I'll take it out and try to figure it out, I'm not a big electrical guy.

answer is to buy my M3 cluster...

Mine does the same thing. At first, it would flicker on and off, but now its completely not working. The odometer has stopped working as well, however the tach works.

Ive heard that it can be the gears in the cluster possibly?

I had a similar problem with my tach, MPG gauge and temp gauge on my old cluster. My gauge lights had already gone out at that point. I replaced it with a "new" cluster and all was well. I am 90% sure the non-working parts of the gauge were due to a bad SI board. Either way, something is probably bad in the cluster, and they aren't too hard to replace.
