Ok, i just got my SMT-6 and wiring diagram and have some questions:..There are actually only 4 wires that the SMT-6 uses off the motronic1.1/1.3 to function, by the looks of the wiring diagram.. The Power, Ground, "V.A.F" sensor (pin 7 on the wiring harness to the stock ECU) and the crankshaft sensor. Well anyhow, for the power and ground wires, you just splice the SMT line into the stock lines on the ECU. What should i use after removing the rubber over the wire and soldering the other wire in to "cover up" the connection? Can't really fit any shrink tubing over it....electrical tape?

Ever heard of wiretaps? Apparently not. Every auto parts store will carry them.Tenured Automotive Service Professional - Avid BMW Enthusiast

I suggest cutting the wires, put a shrink turbing over the end, solder the wires in such a way that the plastic is alone so it can be moved over the other 2 wires when soldere,
Wiretaps, are they those blue plastic you put one end in and close it and the other and close it again, those are no good here, this is delicate wiring and is very subject to noise and distortion
I reccomend soldering and covering with shrinking tubingGunni

I also agree. Those blue plastic things suck. They can break and come apart or the wire can just slip out and fall off. I use them as little as possible when wiring something important like this.

you can use wiretaps on the power lines if you must, but solder everything else. I actually had many problems on my setup until i soldered everything. The wiretaps are SHITMichael Spiegle
