    ECU

    Hey Guys
I Have a 1990 325ic and I am looking for a chip. I heard that the ECU is in the glovebox up top. Is this true? Do I need to remove my gloveox to get to the ECU. I want to see what number mine is. Also I heard that the 153's are bad, are ECU's pretty much universal?
    thanks
    Nate

If you open up your glove box and remove the plastic cover above it, you will see the ecu sitting there, chillin.

Well I feel like an idiot. (5 screws). I never realized it was such a big unit. The last 3 numbers are "525". Does that have any significance? Why are there different numbers?
      thanks brew

There are 4 or so ECU's for the 325i's the 153 is an older one known to have some idle problems and was replaced with the 173 ecu. Also a 380 and 525 like you have can be found in them also. I'm not sure why they changed them but my guese is to fix small problems they found over the years in the ecu's.
